Thermal

At Whitsuntide 2005 it was fabulous weather on Sunday.

I hit the best thermal I have had for 11 years i.e. since the summer 1994 having 3 km to the ceiling on Zealand. This time I had 3.9 m/s during a lift of 1350 m.

I entered the thermal at 490 meter and left it again at 1840 m.

I managed 78 km/h on a 323 km trip despite a rather weak start and a task going perpendicular to the cloud-streets, because I had hoped for a sea breeze front, when I planned the task.

Final glide altitude was reached with a couple of hundred meters reserve when 69 km was lacking, but I was chicken and pulled a bit extra height underway after passing some severe sink.
